Quiet Time

Quiet Time:  As artists we are alone a lot in our studios or places that we paint.  I am fortunate to have a studio.  This is my place of refuge, it is where I keep so many things that I love that just walking into my studio puts me at ease.  Some of my students call it the "Zen" place.  Not because of what I teach, but the feeling one gets when they walk into it.

I do a lot of painting, writing and playing piano in my studio in the wee hours of the morning.  This is such a joyful time- especially between 3am and 5 am when the world is quiet and it is just me and God, the high energy of the silence mixed with the spirit who comes through me as an artist and lays strokes of colors on a canvas I can barely remember making later in the day.

It renews my spirit, fills me with joy, and any worries seem distant if not completely gone.

Please, each of you get a space that is just yours (I do share mine with my Students while teaching, but then I have that good energy left in the room as well)

Go there as often as you can.  Paint, write, even dance if you want...but in the quietness of your space, there you will find the eternal fountain.

Please tell us the best way you have found to do your craft so we may all learn from one another what works for us...

I love Mary Whyte's new watercolor video!  Mary takes you through her process from the drawing to the finished painting.  I do not do a lot of watercolor but this video is great and inspirational and I know I will watch it again real soon!
Great information, Mary!  Thank you so much!

Charles Reid-Painting Portraits in Watercolor Video (VHS) Blog Post May 4, 2011

This week I am trying my hand at watercolor.  I am watching the watercolor video (vhs) by Charles Reid "Painting Portraits in Watercolor" .  Yesterday I went over it again.  I love the way he paints with great brush strokes and loose colors.  I also like the way he shows how he starts a watercolor.  His drawing is simple but masterful!  I recommend this video!
